Amazon Image Requirements — Quick Reference
Amazon has strict image requirements for product listings. Non-compliant images can result in listing suppression, which means your product won't appear in search results. Here are the key requirements:
Critical Requirements (Main Image)
- Pure white background: RGB 255,255,255 — no shadows, gradients, or props
- Minimum 1000×1000px: Required to enable the zoom feature (2000×2000px recommended)
- Product fills 85%+ of frame: The product must occupy at least 85% of the image area
- JPEG format preferred: PNG and TIFF also accepted. No GIF for main image.
- No text or watermarks: No promotional text, badges, or watermarks on the main image

Step-by-Step: Prepare Amazon Product Images
- 1Shoot on white background
Use a white sweep or lightbox for your main product photo. If shooting on another background, you'll need to remove it in editing software.
- 2Resize to 2000×2000px
Use our free Image Resizer. Set width and height to 2000px. Lock aspect ratio if your product is square. For non-square products, resize the longest side to 2000px.
- 3Compress to under 2MB
Use our Image Compressor at 85% quality. This reduces upload time and Amazon's processing time without visible quality loss.
- 4Verify the white background
Open the image and check that the background is pure white (RGB 255,255,255). Any off-white or gray tones can cause Amazon to suppress your listing.
- 5Upload to Amazon Seller Central
Go to Manage Inventory → Edit → Images. Upload your main image and up to 8 additional images.
Additional Images — Best Practices
Amazon allows up to 9 images per listing (1 main + 8 additional). Use all available slots to maximize conversion:
- Image 2: Different angle of the product on white background
- Image 3: Lifestyle shot — product in use in a real environment
- Image 4: Infographic showing key features and dimensions
- Image 5: Close-up of materials, texture, or quality details
- Image 6: Size comparison or scale reference
- Image 7: Packaging shot
- Image 8: Before/after or comparison chart
- Image 9: Video thumbnail (if you have a product video)
How Image Quality Affects Amazon Sales
Amazon A/B testing data consistently shows that high-quality images with zoom capability (requires 1000px minimum) increase conversion rates by 10–30%. Listings with 7+ images outperform those with fewer images. The main image is the single most important factor in click-through rate from search results.
Investing time in proper image preparation — correct dimensions, white background, high resolution — directly translates to more sales. Use our free tools to ensure every image meets Amazon's requirements before uploading.
